Stay Licensed. Stay Legal. We Handle the FCC.
License applications, renewals, compliance monitoring, and frequency coordination. We handle the regulatory burden so you stay legal and on the air.
Overview
Every business operating two-way radios on dedicated frequencies needs an FCC license. Operating without one exposes your organization to fines up to $100,000 per violation. Licenses are valid for 10 years, but the application process involves frequency searches, interference coordination with neighboring license holders, and regulatory documentation that most organizations are not set up to manage.
VEI has handled FCC licensing for radio operators across Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina since 1997. For new systems, we identify available frequencies in your area, coordinate with adjacent license holders to eliminate interference risk before it occurs, and file the complete application. You do not deal with the FCC Universal Licensing System directly.
For existing systems, we track your renewal deadlines and file before they lapse. A lapsed license means you are operating illegally until renewal is granted. We also manage amendments when your system changes. Adding a repeater site, changing frequencies, or expanding coverage area all require FCC filings. Organizations operating across state lines face additional coordination complexity that we handle across all four of our service states.
Everything This Service Covers
New License Applications
For organizations deploying their first radio system, we handle the complete application from frequency search through FCC grant. We identify available frequencies in your area, document the technical parameters of your system, and file the application with all required exhibits. You receive a copy of the granted license and ongoing renewal tracking.
Multi-State Licensing
Operations that span multiple states require separate frequency coordination in each jurisdiction. VEI manages licenses across Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina from one point of contact. Multi-state customers with systems in all four states have one vendor managing all their regulatory filings.
Renewal Management
FCC licenses expire every 10 years and must be renewed before the expiration date. A lapsed license means your radios are operating without authorization. VEI tracks all customer license expiration dates and files renewals proactively, typically 12 months before expiration to allow time for processing.
Frequency Coordination
Adding frequencies to an existing license or coordinating new frequencies in a crowded spectrum environment requires formal coordination with neighboring license holders. We manage that process, including interference analysis and negotiation when existing licensees object to new frequency assignments near their operations.
License Modifications
System changes require FCC amendments. Adding a repeater site, changing transmitter power, updating antenna specifications, or adding coverage area all require formal filings. We track what changes trigger amendment requirements and file before you operate the modified system.
Compliance Monitoring
Licensed systems must operate within the technical parameters specified in the license. We verify that your system operates within those parameters during maintenance visits and flag any drift that could put you out of compliance. Operating outside licensed parameters carries the same penalties as operating without a license.
Our Process
Frequency Search
We identify available frequencies in your operating area and check for potential interference with neighboring license holders.
Application Filing
We prepare and submit the FCC application with all required technical exhibits, coordination letters, and supporting documentation.
License Monitoring
Once granted, we track your license expiration and file renewals proactively. You never miss a deadline.
Ongoing Compliance
System modifications, frequency changes, and coverage expansions all require FCC amendments. We handle every filing as your system evolves.
