Tait TP9800
The TP9800 is Tait's lightweight P25 multiband portable, covering VHF, UHF, and 700/800MHz with P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 trunking in a radio weighing as little as 11.42 oz with the slimline battery. FIPS 140-2 certified encryption and TIA-102 P25 CAP compliance satisfy federal procurement requirements. Reconfigurable bands mean the hardware stays current through frequency plan changes.

Overview
For law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel wearing a radio for an entire shift, weight is a real factor. Most P25 multiband portables weigh significantly more than their single-band equivalents because multiband hardware requires additional RF components. The TP9800 was engineered specifically to minimize that weight penalty.
At 11.42 oz (324g) with the slimline battery and 13.42 oz (382g) with the high capacity battery, the TP9800 is among the lightest P25 multiband portables available. It covers VHF 136-174MHz, UHF 378-520MHz, and 700/800MHz 757-870MHz with 5W output (6W VHF). It supports Analog Conventional, P25 Conventional Digital, P25 Trunking Phase 1 and Phase 2, with 1,000 standard channels and 2,000 via software license. Battery life is 19 hours in TDMA mode at 5W with the high capacity battery. The radio automatically switches between analog and digital transmission based on received calls, so officers on mixed networks do not need to manually select modes.
FIPS 140-2 certified AES, DES, and ARC4 encryption meets federal grant compliance requirements. IP65 and IP68 ratings alongside MIL-STD-810G certification ensure reliable operation in rain, heat, vibration, and drop scenarios. Man Down and Lone Worker are standard. Tait EnableProtect Key Fill Device integration supports agencies with strict cryptographic key management requirements. Bands are reconfigurable over the air, so the hardware does not need to be replaced when frequency plans change.
Key Features
Lightest in Class
At 11.42 oz with the slimline battery and 13.42 oz with the high capacity battery, the TP9800 is among the lightest P25 multiband radios available. The weight reduction compared to conventional multiband designs is measurable over an extended shift, reducing fatigue for first responders wearing the radio for 8-12 hours.
P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 Trunking
Full P25 Phase 1 FDMA and P25 Phase 2 TDMA trunking operation means the TP9800 is ready for both current and next-generation P25 systems. Agencies on Phase 1 today can issue TP9800 radios now and migrate to Phase 2 without replacing the hardware, protecting the investment across the technology transition.
FIPS 140-2 Encryption and Key Fill
The FIPS 140-2 certified encryption module supporting AES, DES, and ARC4 satisfies requirements for agencies receiving federal Homeland Security grants and operating under CJIS policy. Tait EnableProtect Key Fill Device integration provides controlled cryptographic key distribution for agencies with strict key management protocols.
Automatic Analog to Digital Switching
Dual mode operation automatically switches between analog and digital transmission based on the received signal, so officers working in areas with mixed analog and digital infrastructure do not need to manually select modes. This eliminates operator error during high-stress situations where mode selection is easily forgotten.
Over-the-Air Band Reconfiguration
Bands are not hardware-locked at manufacture. When an agency migrates from one frequency plan to another, the TP9800 can be reconfigured over the air to match the new band plan without a hardware swap. This directly reduces the total cost of a frequency migration across a large portable fleet.
Man Down and Lone Worker Standard
Man Down and Lone Worker safety alerts are standard features. The programmable emergency key provides a dedicated distress signal. Four programmable function keys and glove-friendly ergonomic controls ensure the radio remains operable when officers are wearing protective gear or working in low-visibility conditions.
