Viking VM7000

The Viking VM7000 is the only mobile in the Viking line capable of simultaneously receiving up to four bands: Low Band, VHF, UHF, and 700/800 MHz. High-power variants reach 110 watts on Low Band and VHF for rural terrain coverage. P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2, up to 4,096 channels, Wi-Fi OTIP, and multi-agency dispatch-console-style speaker select make it the right choice for interoperability command vehicles and statewide agencies.

Overview

State police, regional communication authorities, and interoperability command vehicles operate across multiple public safety bands and systems simultaneously. A single-band mobile radio requires the operator to switch bands manually when monitoring multiple systems, which creates coverage gaps and increases cognitive load during incidents. The VM7000 is designed to eliminate that problem by monitoring all four major public safety bands at once.

Band coverage spans Low Band (39-50 MHz), VHF (136-174 MHz), UHF (380-520 MHz), and 700/800 MHz (763-776 and 851-870 MHz). High-power variants deliver 25-110 W on Low Band (VM 7630H) and 5-110 W on VHF (VM 7730H), with standard VHF at 5-50 W, UHF at 5-40/45 W, and 700/800 MHz at 2-30/35 W. Channel capacity starts at 1,024 and expands to 2,048 or 4,096. The 255-zone configuration covers statewide channel plans.

Select/unselect speaker control per band gives the operator dispatch-console-like control over which systems are active in the vehicle audio, without routing through a separate console. Wi-Fi enables OTIP for remote fleet programming. The 2.75-inch 400 x 240 pixel color LCD with 140-degree viewing angle displays all band activity simultaneously. P25 IP packet data, P25 Link Layer Authentication, AES-256 FIPS 140-2, OTAR, TrueVoice, and built-in GPS are standard. Single and dual remote mount configurations accommodate specialized vehicle installations.

Key Features

Four-Band Simultaneous Receive

Low Band, VHF, UHF, and 700/800 MHz receive and display simultaneously in a single mobile radio. Select/unselect speaker control operates per band, similar to a dispatch console, letting the operator control which systems are active in vehicle audio without switching channels. No other single-head mobile radio in the Viking lineup offers this capability.

110-Watt High-Power Variants

High-power Low Band (VM 7630H) and VHF (VM 7730H) models deliver up to 110 W for rural and mountainous terrain coverage where standard 50 W mobile output is insufficient. High-power variants use a larger physical deck (7.01 x 2.56 x 13.84 inches at 12.1 lbs) compared to the standard unit (3.3-3.75 lbs), appropriate for dedicated vehicle installations.

Wi-Fi Over-the-Internet Programming

OTIP via Wi-Fi allows programming updates to be pushed to the vehicle radio remotely without physical cable connections or vehicle staging. For state agencies managing hundreds of vehicles across multiple districts, the ability to push a configuration update wirelessly eliminates a significant logistics burden for fleet programming updates.

P25 Phase 1/2 with 4,096-Channel Option

Full P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 trunking with a 4,096-channel maximum accommodates the largest statewide and multi-agency channel plans. P25 IP packet data supports CAD integration. P25 Link Layer Authentication and P25 Authentication provide network security. Viking16 adds SmartNet and SmartZone for legacy Motorola trunking.

AES-256 FIPS 140-2 and OTAR

AES-256 FIPS 140-2 multi-key encryption and OTAR key management are standard. ARC4 (Motorola ADP compatible) and DES-OFB are also supported for agencies with mixed key management infrastructure. Keyloader compatibility spans VK5000 and Motorola KVL3000/4000 for agencies transitioning between key management platforms.

Single and Dual Remote Mount

The RF deck mounts separately from the control head in both single and dual remote configurations, useful for command vehicles with specialized console layouts, or installations where the RF deck needs to be physically separated from the operator position for antenna routing or RF isolation reasons.
